The boys freshman red basketball team defeated Woodbridge 59-48. They were led by Shane Cavanaugh with 28 points and Phil Edwards with 11. The Monarchs play again at 6 p.m. at Corona Del Mar.

Shane Cavanaugh plays first JV game for Mater Dei

The Boys Junior Varsity basketball team won their first round game of the Great Oak tournament by defeating Great Oak High School by the score of 58-40. The team had balanced scoring and were led by Brennan Merchant with 12 points, Shane Cavanaugh with 11 points, Isaiah Juaurez with 10 points and Sam Ghods with 8 points. The team plays their second round game today against Riverside East Valley at 6:00 tonight.

The freshman red boys basketball team defeated Villa Park 62-19. The Monarchs were led by Shane Cavanaugh with 21 points. Pierre Aguirre and Cole Gouge each scored 10 points.

The freshman red boys basketball team defeated Palm Desert by a score of 71-28 on Saturday. The Monarchs were led by Shane Cavanaugh with 29 points. The Monarchs begin play in the CDM tourney tomorrow at 6 p.m. vs. Brea.

The boys freshman red team defeated Mira Costa 61-53 to clinch the Los Alamitos Tourney Championship. The Monarchs were led by tourney MVP, Shane Cavahaugh with 24 points and All Tourney selection Ben Humphries with 11 points.

Shane Cavanaugh has great potential due to his work ethic & his positive
attitude towards the game of basketball! Shane's a tough kid , strong
willed & determined to be the best! During my time as Shanes trainer he
constantly improved on his game from ball handling, shooting , passing,
dribbling & having a feel for the game & scoring the basketball! Over the
next few years barring injury shane will have an opportunity to emerge as
an elite player in southern california & beyond! He's a coaches dream
because of his ability to be coached & his tireless work ethic, more
importantly he a good student & a great kid.
